Typically, we think of fall, or winter, when we think about the color brown in the garden.

And while there is of course more brown visible in the garden, in the winter, brown appears any time of year!  Dr. Tae Yun Kim explains that brown is the color of the earth, and this means, foundation!  We all need have a firm foundation in our lives, whether as a Jung Suwon student, or in any area of life.  Dr. Tae Yun Kim illustrates this concept by saying, when you first start school, you didn’t start by reading a long novel.  No, you started by learning each letter of the alphabet!”

Here is a rather unusual picture of something brown in the garden – doesn’t it look exactly like a drill bit?

Dr. Tae Yun Kim says that it’s no coincident that this is brown in color.  Number one, it is the same as the earth color, so it blends right in.  Number two, this is actually a seed, and it must build a firm foundation in the ground, so it can germinate and grow!

Of course, at Jung Suwon, a brown belt indicates that a student has built a firm foundation of the art of Jung Suwon, and is getting ready for more advanced training.  Let’s congratulate this brave and consistent student for achieving this high level!  Pil Seung!
